Established 1863, the city’s first reservoir serves as an essential fresh water resource for the city.
POKFULAM DAIRY FARM (1886)
In 1886, Sir Patrick Manson and five other partners establish Dairy Farm, aimed to
enhance health by providing affordable, uncontaminated milk to the city.
HONG KONG BAUHINIA (1886)
Discovered in around 1880 by a Missionary, the Bauhinia Blakeana was chosen as the
city’s official flower in 1965.
BÉTHANIE (1875)
In 1875, construction completes on Béthanie, Hong Kong’s first sanatorium. Today, the
historic building is a campus for the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
